Honoree: Helen M. Gordon

Helen M. Gordon, a proud Southampton local, served in the United States Army as a Sergeant with the 249th Supply Company under the 1st Corps Support Command and the XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. From March 1976 to August 1977, she distinguished herself through dedicated service, strong leadership, and unwavering commitment to her duties.

During her time at Fort Bragg, Helen served as a squad and section leader at the Central Issue Facility, where she made significant contributions to base operations—personally creating nearly 100 directional signs that improved efficiency for over 40,000 service members. She later served with the Security Police as a desk sergeant, devoting long hours to crime suppression and facility security across Area IV of the base.

In addition, she was appointed Barracks Sergeant for the company’s female barracks at both Fort Bragg and at the U.S. Army installation in Nellingen, located in Stuttgart, Germany—where she continued to demonstrate leadership and dedication to her fellow service members.

Helen also completed the 1st Corps Support Command Basic Leadership Course with an impressive 93.4% score, ranking among the top enlisted personnel on post. She was repeatedly recognized for her initiative, professionalism, and the high standards she upheld as a soldier.
