            On Friday, February 27th, 2026, at about 3:47pm the Southampton Town Police attempted to stop a motor vehicle for a traffic violation on Montauk Hwy in Hampton Bays. With the Police vehicles emergency lights and sirens activated, the Driver of the motor vehicle was failing to comply by accelerating away and illegally passing vehicles at a high rate of speed. The driver eventually pulled into a residential driveway in Hampton Bays, exited his vehicle and ran inside the residence. After a short time the driver did exit the residence and was taken into Police custody. The driver was identified as Alex Lopez, 28 years old of Hampton Bays and upon further investigation, he was found to have operated his motor vehicle with a suspended license and did have an active Bench warrant from Southampton Town Court.

Mr. Lopez was arrested and transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters for processing where he was held for morning arraignment. Mr. Lopez was charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a motor vehicle 3rd(Misdemeanor), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle 3rd(Misdemeanor) and held on the Bench Warrant.
