Details:  On Saturday, March 14, 2026 at approximately 6:41 PM a complainant pulled in to the Southampton Town Police Department Headquarters in Hampton Bays to report he had just been shot at while in his vehicle driving on Red Creek Road in the vicinity of Dewey Lane, Hampton Bays by a subject known to him. His vehicle had multiple bullet holes. Southampton Town Police Patrol Units, CRU Units and Detectives immediately began searching the area for a subject in possession of a handgun operating a black vehicle. New York State Police assisted in canvassing the area and provided a K-9 unit as well.  The complainant was able to provide the identity of the shooter as he is known to him. An extensive search of Hampton Bays was conducted and the suspected shooter was eventually located and taken into custody.  He was transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters where he was ultimately charged with Reckless Endangerment 1 (felony); Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd (felony); Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd (felony) and Criminal Mischief 2nd (felony).  He was held overnight at headquarters for morning arraignment.  The identity of the defendant is not being released due to him being a juvenile. The complainant nor his passenger were injured during the shooting.  The handgun was recovered and is in the custody of the Southampton Town Police Department.
