On January 6th, 2026 at approximately 12:15pm a Southampton Town Police Officer stopped a vehicle traveling westbound on County Road 39 for several traffic violations. Upon further investigation the driver was found to be operating the vehicle with forged license plates and produced a forged registration document to police. He was also found to have a revoked drivers license status. Subsequently, Edgar Jesus Herrera Alvarado, age 51 of Riverhead was arrested and charged with 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Second Degree ( all misdemeanors) and several traffic infractions. Mr Herrera Alvarado was processed at Southampton Town Police Headquarters and issued a desk appearance ticket for a future court date .
