Community Housing Fund (CHF)
On November 8, 2022, Southampton Town voters approved a local law to amend Chapter 140 of the Southampton Town Code to establish a half-percent tax to fund the Peconic Bay Region Community Housing Fund, which will allow for the creation of affordable housing opportunities in the town.
An Advisory Board reviews the Town’s Community Housing Plan and makes recommendations to the Town Board on possible housing opportunities. If you are interested in participating on the advisory board please complete the attached application and return it to via email to chfapplications@southamptontownny.gov
Affordable Housing Builds a Sustainable Community and Creates a Better Town:
- Provides housing for the town’s essential workers, including first responders, Fire/EMS workers, hospital workers, public servants, and teachers.
- Strengthens the town’s economy by ensuring that workers live near their jobs, that local employers have access to the best and most skilled employees, and that the spending of residents’ income stays in the town.
- Supports Town Residents of all ages and stages of life, including young people who are just starting out, young families with children who need stability, and seniors who wish to securely age in place.

Housing for the Workforce, Seniors and the Disabled
The Town provides funds for a multi-occupancy deed restriction in order to incentivize real estate buyers and homeowners to deed restrict their properties to maintain and sustain homes for people working in the Township, Seniors 55+ or the disabled.

First-Time Home Buyer (CHF)
A first time homebuyer is an eligible individual who has not owned a primary residential property and is not married to a person who has owned a residential property during the three-year period prior his or her purchase of the primary residential property and who does not own a vacation or investment property.

Accessory apartments provide an additional option for housing that is typically more affordable than renting or buying a standalone unit. Accessory apartments can help accommodate individuals or families who may otherwise struggle to find suitable housing within their budget.
