Details: On Friday March 6th, 2026 at about 7:40 PM Southampton Town Police officers responded to the area of West Tiana Road in Hampton Bays for a report of a two-car motor vehicle crash where one vehicle had left the scene prior to police arrival. Officers were able to locate the other involved vehicle a 2012 Volvo shortly afterwards and upon interview with the driver a Sharon P. Rutter, age 67 of Hampton Bays she was found to be operating in an intoxicated condition. She was arrested at the scene and then transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters for processing. Rutter is charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor) and Leaving the scene of an accident (Violation). She was held overnight for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court. No injuries were reported in the crash.
