Cheif-Press Release

January 24, 2026

CC # ST26004142

Prepared by: D/Sgt. Gina Laferrera

Details: On Saturday, January 24, 2026 at approximately 3:46 PM Southampton Town Police received a 911 call about two employees at a business in Southampton that were involved in a verbal dispute that escalated when one of the employees displayed a handgun and pointed it at the second employee. Southampton Town Patrol Officers and Detectives responded to the incident location. Upon arrival officers took possession of the handgun and began the investigation. The investigation revealed that during the verbal dispute one employee produced a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at a second employee. The employee that had possession of the handgun, Benjamin Alvarez, age 27 of Hampton Bays, New York, had a valid NYS License to carry the weapon, but his place of employment was restricted and he was not authorized to possess it there.
