Shellfish Harvesters and Shellfish Dealers,
Due to the extremely heavy rainfall and extraordinary amounts of stormwater runoff and localized street flooding associated with the rainfall event of October 2, 2022 and continuing through October 5, 2022, has resulted in conditions which may cause shellfish to be hazardous for use as food. To protect public health, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Shellfisheries Section is temporarily closing the following areas noted below to the harvest of shellfish.
Effective immediately, the following areas are closed to the harvest of shellfish:
- Town of Southold: All that area of Cutchogue Harbor lying north of a line extending northeast from New Suffolk Point to the northernmost point of land at Horseshoe Cove; and all tributaries of Hog Neck Bay and Little Peconic Bay lying between Nassau Point and Cedar Beach Point.
- Towns of Southampton and East Hampton: All that area of Sag Harbor Cove including tributaries lying southerly and westerly of the NYS Route 114 Bridge.
- Town of East Hampton: All that area of Three Mile Harbor, Hog Creek, and Accabonac Harbor including their tributaries.
