F.A.S.T. at the Flanders Youth Center

The Southampton Youth Bureau's F.A.S.T. program is an opportunity for young children in grades K - 4 to participate in Fun Activities with Snacks and Time to do homework! Students will have the opportunity to make new friends, learn social skills, and participate in social-emotional growth activities. Students in grades 3 & 4 will also learn creative writing and participate in confidence building activities through East End Art’s 2rs4fun program (begins Oct. 2nd). F.A.S.T. is free and meets every Monday beginning September 11th at the Flanders Youth Center, 655 Flanders Rd from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Youth Court

Youth Court is a great way to earn community service credits and build your college resume! High school students from local schools work together to hold real trials for juvenile offenders, where all the facts of the case are heard and the jury decides on a disposition, or “sentence”, for the offender to repair the harm that they have caused to the victims.

Students in grades 9 - 12 living or attending school in the Town of Southampton can participate. Those who are interested in becoming an attorney, improving public speaking skills, learning about the justice system, building their college/job resume or just enjoy community service are invited to join.

General youth court meetings are held on Mondays from 6:00pm – 7:30pm at the Southampton Town Justice Court, 32 Jackson Ave – Transportation may be available upon request. New member training will be held on Monday, October 2nd!

Youth and Government

Registration is now open for The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau’s “Youth and Government” program. Youth & Government is sponsored by the Alliance of NYS YMCAs and is a national program that involves teens in state-organized, model-government programs. Students in grades 9 - 12 will have the opportunity to practice experiential civic engagement and learn about the democratic process. Youth will discuss and debate issues that affect citizens of New York State and will get a chance to deliberate in the chambers of the NYS Legislature at a state conference in Albany. The Southampton Youth Bureau’s Youth & Government program begins Wednesday, October 4th. Meetings will be held the first and third Wednesday of the month from 6:30pm – 8:00pm at the Hampton Bays Community Center, 25 Ponquogue Avenue. Participants will learn how to interview, create creditable stories, film & edit video, and produce content for TV. Program begins Thursday, October 5th – Pre-registration is required. The Southampton Youth Bureau is recruiting new members to join their Youth Advisory Committee for the 2023 - 2024 school year! If you are in grades 7th through 12th and interested in planning trips and events, participating in community service projects, and making friends with students from other schools, then sign up for YAC! As a YAC member, you can make a difference in your community. Community service projects may include leaf raking for senior citizens, hosting a clothing or toy drive, participating in fundraisers for other youth organizations, meeting with elected officials for youth causes, or other activities that can make a difference in our community. Youth Advisory Committee is a great way to get involved and to earn community service credit hours during the school year. Meetings will be held every other Tuesday from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. The first official meeting begins September 12th at the Hampton Bays Community Center, 25 Ponquogue Avenue. Pre-registration is required!

Dance with Project LEAP

The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau and Peconic Ballet Foundation will be hosting Dance with Project LEAP (Learn, Empower, Achieve, Perform) every Wednesday from 4:30pm – 6:30pm (October 18th – January 10th) at the Flanders Youth Center, 655 Flanders Road. Class will not be held on November 22nd and December 27th. Professional dance instructors from the Peconic Ballet Foundation will teach Ballet while encouraging exercise, confidence building, creativity, and having fun! Previous experience is not necessary to join. Dance with Project LEAP is open to grades 1 – 4 (4:30pm – 5:30pm) and grades 5 – 8 (5:30pm – 6:30pm) and the cost to attend is $150 for the entire program. A ballet performance will be scheduled for Saturday, January 13th, time TBA. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Chef Keith has a Masters Degree in Social Work along with decades of experience working with youth. His curriculum will also focus on the principles of social and emotional education. Program cost is $100 for a seven-week session - scholarships are available. Space is very limited and pre-registration is required! The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau will be hosting an Open Mic Night on Saturday, October 21st from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Nice Place Coffee, 41 N Phillips Ave Suite #4 in Remsenburg-Speonk. Performing is free and open to youth in grades 5 – 12. Acoustic performers, karaoke, spoken word, poetry and comedic acts are all welcome to participate! High school students from local schools work together to hold real trials for juvenile offenders, where all the facts of the case are heard and the jury decides on a disposition, or “sentence”, for the offender to repair the harm that they have caused to the victims.

Students in grades 9 - 12 living or attending school in the Town of Southampton can participate. Those who are interested in becoming an attorney, improving public speaking skills, learning about the justice system, building their college/job resume or just enjoy community service are invited to join.

General youth court meetings are held on Mondays from 6:00pm – 7:30pm at the Southampton Town Justice Court, 32 Jackson Ave – Transportation may be available upon request. New member training will be held on Monday, October 2nd!

Chess Club at the Flanders Youth Center

The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau's Chess Club will be held on Tuesdays beginning October 3rd from 5:00pm - 6:30pm at the Flanders Youth Center, 655 Flanders Rd. Students are taught to challenge themselves, build self-confidence, meet new friends, reduce stress, and learn strategy & discipline through the game of Chess.
