Details: On Wednesday, March 4th, 2026 at approximately 3:16 PM the Southampton Town Police Department received a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving multiple vehicles on CR39 near the cross street of Saint Andrews Road West, Southampton.    Southampton Town Police Patrol Units and New York State Troopers, along with members of the Southampton Volunteer Ambulance and Southampton Volunteer Fire Department responded to scene and the following information was developed.

Responding units arrived and found that a multi vehicle collision had occurred, culminating in a head on collision between a westbound 2022 White Dodge Ram pick-up and an eastbound 2014 White GMC Van.  The collision blocked the road and resulted in the operator of the 2014 White GMC sustaining fatal injuries as the operator was declared deceased on the scene.

The Southampton Town Police Detective Division responded to the scene to investigate.  The road was unpassable as it was blocked by the five vehicles involved in the collision.   Investigation included interviewing witnesses that indicated the above noted eastbound 2014 White GMC Van was eastbound on CR39, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle left its designated lane of travel and side swipe struck a westbound 2019 Volkswagon SUV, with such impact that it dislodged the driver’s rear tire from that vehicle and caused that vehicle to spin around in the roadway.

Investigation further indicated that the 2014 White GMC van continued eastbound side impacting a second westbound vehicle, described as 2017 Maroon Toyota pick-up which received catastrophic damage. Many items used for construction were ejected from the bed of the truck and landed across CR39.

That same 2014 White GMC, then sideswiped a third vehicle, described as 2018 International Flat Bad tow truck, before colliding head-on in the westbound lane of travel with a westbound 2022 White Dodge Ram pick-up truck.

These collisions caused a debris field of over 600 feet and left four vehicles essentially totaled in the travel portions of all lanes of CR 39.  Three subjects were taken to the hospital as a result of the collision with non-life-threatening injuries.

As noted, the operator of the eastbound 2014 GMC Van was declared deceased on scene.  That operator’s identity is being held pending notification to the family.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to conduct their investigation and the Southampton Volunteer Fire Department was needed to extricate the victim’s body from the vehicle.

Southampton Town Police Department utilized its Unmanned Aircraft Unit to aid in documenting the horrific crash during the accident investigation.

These collisions resulted in CR39 being closed to westbound traffic at Tuckahoe Road and eastbound traffic at Shrubland Road from the time of the accident until approximately 7:32 PM.

The investigation into the collision is on-going and Southampton detectives encourage anyone with information about this incident to contact the Southampton Town Police Detective Division.

Southampton Town Police Department asks that anyone with information on any criminal activity call the Southampton Town Police at 631-728-5000, the Southampton Town Detective Division at 631-702-2230, or the Crime Hotline at 631-728-3454.  All calls will be kept confidential.  You may also email us at crimetips@southamptontownny.gov.
