SOUTHAMPTON TOWN EXTENDS OUTDOOR DINING PERMITS

In a continuation of ongoing efforts to provide relief to eateries in the Town of Southampton that experienced negative impacts from the COVID-19 health crisis, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman has issued an executive order temporarily suspending a section of the Town Code that restricts outdoor dining.  Outdoor dining at restaurants is normally permitted from April 1 – November 1 each year. With the new Executive Order #12.21, the Town suspends section 250 -2-B(9) of the Town Code to allow outdoor dining to continue past the November 1 deadline and further into the fall season.

“We recognize the shortened and more challenging season that many of our restaurants experienced as a result of COVID-19 restrictions, and hope that this will provide them with additional relief and opportunity,” said Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman.  “With the expectation that many of our more seasonal residents plan to stay in Southampton beyond the traditional summer months, the extension of outdoor dining permits will provide safe dining choices to our residents, as well as economic opportunity to our businesses.”

The Town of Southampton has previously taken steps to allow restaurants to expand their footprint to allow for more outdoor dining whenever safely possible to do so, and have worked with businesses to try and help throughout the pandemic in any way possible.   Town Emergency Manager Ryan Murphy said, “Our Fire Marshal’s Office and Police Department have been working with the businesses throughout the pandemic to try to help them open safely.  Fire Marshals and Police have met with business owners to work on safety plans, have provided guidance on the most up-to-date versions of the NYS Executive Orders available, and have monitored COVID compliance throughout the Town.”  He noted that many businesses in the Town have demonstrated tremendous resilience and creativity during the pandemic in efforts to survive and protect the safety of their customers.

Emergency Order #12.21 is in effect as of 12:00 a.m. on October 29, 2020 through November 2, 2020 at 11:59 p.m., and may be renewed thereafter if deemed necessary and appropriate.
