About fifty people turned out for the first public hearing on the proposed East Quogue Village Incorporation petition on Monday, May 13, 2019. Under State law, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman must decide whether the petition is sufficient to warrant a proposed vote on the Incorporation. Some in the audience raised objections on some of the 780 signatures collected. One person claimed he did not sign the petition while another claimed that the list of regular inhabitants includes people who are deceased.
Under State law, 20 percent of the residents within the proposed territory are required to sign the petition in order for it to be validated. The Supervisor will hold another public hearing Monday, May 20th at 6pm at the East Quogue School. He has until May 31st to continue the public hearing process. A written decision is then required within ten days.
