The Great East End Clean-Up took place throughout Southampton Town during Earth Day weekend. Approximately 700 volunteers removed 3.76 tons of garbage and bulk items (furniture) and .23 tons of construction/debris from beaches, parks, trails, and roadsides.
Councilman Martel met up with various groups throughout the Town, including the students from the Remsenburg-Speonk School SPARK Club, Hampton Bays Beautification Association, American Legion Post 94, Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue, the US Coast Guard, volunteers at Elliston Park, and the Southampton Youth Bureau.
“It really is heartwarming to see how much everyone loves this Town and how dedicated they are to keeping it clean,” said Councilman Rick Martel, who led the cleanup. “I don’t think there’s a speck of dirt left on Ponquogue Beach. It was a great Saturday, thank you to all of the volunteers!”
