FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 25, 2022
At its meeting of March 23, 2022 the members of the East End Supervisors and Mayors Association (EESMA) unanimously re-appointed Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman as Chair, a position he has held since his prior appointment in 2018. He is sharing his responsibilities with Vice-Chair Gerry Larsen, Mayor of East Hampton Village. Schneiderman also held the position of Chair when he was Supervisor of the Town of East Hampton. EESMA meets bi-monthly.
Guest speaker at the meeting was Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney, who gave the group an overview of his office, and outlined the benefits and availability of its resources to the police departments of the East End.
Realizing that there is strength in numbers, EESMA was formed to enhance the quality of life for all the residents of the five East End towns (East Hampton, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Southampton, Southold) and ten incorporated villages (Dering Harbor, East Hampton, Greenport, North Haven, Quogue, Sagaponack, Sag Harbor, Southampton, Westhampton Beach, West Hampton Dunes), tackling those regional issues that would benefit from a common voice, agenda and goals. Such recent topics have included:
- The COVID Pandemic
- Shared Services and Consolidation Opportunities
- Coastal Erosion and Policy
- Affordable Housing
- The Opioid Epidemic
- Economic Development and Tourism
- Septic System Upgrades/Clean Water Initiatives
- Regional Transportation Issues
NYS Assemblymen Fred Thiele and Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio, NYS Senator Anthony Palumbo, and County Legislators Bridget Fleming and Al Krupski have standing places on each agenda, both to hear discussion items, and to report to the group.
Supervisor Schneiderman noted, “I am honored to be unanimously selected by my peers to continue as Chair of EESMA. It has become abundantly clear that our municipalities share so many issues of concern. EESMA has become a vital sounding board and powerful regional voice for advocacy for the people of the East End.”
