At the November 23 Town Board Meeting, the Town Board voted to award a $149,796 contract to Ramboll to prepare a Climate Action Plan.  The Town is part of the Climate Smart Community program, an initiative of the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation with the goal of combating climate change.  Developing the Climate Action Plan is one of the recommended critical steps in achieving that goal.  The Plan will offer a road map of recommendations and actions to meet the Town’s sustainability goals.

The Town issued a request for proposal (RFP) for this project with a deadline of September 30 for proposal submissions. Three firms responded to the RFP. In ranking and scoring proposals, Ramboll’s submission was found to meet all the RFP requirements, having the most relevant experience and expertise to fulfill the Town’s climate objectives.

Under the one year contract, Ramboll will evaluate all of the greenhouse gas emissions for Town facilities, and the community at large, and create a cost benefit analysis for the different action items the Town can take to mitigate our consumption and to achieve the goal of 100% renewably sourced energy by 2025 and carbon net neutrality by 2040.  The Climate Action Plan will then be adopted as an addendum to the 1999 Comprehensive Plan, much like the Sustainability Plan.

“This is an essential step to reaching our goals of sustainability in an efficient and cost effective way.  I’m looking forward to working with Ramboll and gathering the metrics necessary to be able to guide our board, and future boards, on how to meet the goals that the state has put before us,” said Councilman John Bouvier, the lead sponsor of the legislation.  “I’m hopeful that other municipalities will follow suit.”
