Medical Waste

Medical waste is not accepted at the Town of Southampton recycling centers. To protect trash handlers and the environment, we ask that residents please do not dispose of medical waste with their household garbage. In addition, medical waste cannot be recycled. The proper way to dispose of medical waste is at a medical facility.

Pharmaceutical Collection Receptacles

Southampton Hospital sponsored the installation of pharmaceutical collection receptacles in the lobby of the Southampton Town Police Department and the Southampton Village Police Department to provide a secure and appropriate disposal location for local residents’ unused and expired medications.

Medications should never be flushed down the toilet because they can make their way into our local waters. If left in the medicine cabinet, medications can pose an accidental ingestion risk to children and pets. Medication that is unused or expired should always be disposed of properly.
