Town Takes Step Towards New CCA Program

At Tuesday’s Town Board Meeting, the Town Board voted unanimously on a resolution to hire a Community Choice Aggregation Administrator, which would make the Town of Southampton the first municipality on Long Island to accomplish this.

“CCA is a structure that offers the potential for a municipality to offer alternatives in power source to consumers, offer choice and lower rates,” said Councilman John Bouvier, the lead sponsor of the legislation. “Other municipalities have done it, but on Long Island, Southampton Town would be the first.  This is the first step necessary to evaluate and collect the data needed to make an informed decision as to the viability of CCA. Over the next year or so, along with our CCA Administrator, we will do just that.”

The CCA Energy Program was approved by the Town Board in February and may give the ratepayers the ability to find cheaper rates than currently available from the Long Island Power authority and will advance the Town’s goal of achieving 100% renewably sourced electric energy by 2025.  The hiring of the CCA Administrator is the first of many steps in implementing the program.  For more information, contact John Bouvier at 631-287-5745.
